Poggenpohl, founded in 1892 by Friedemir Poggenpohl in Herford, Germany, is renowned as the world's oldest kitchen cabinet manufacturer. Beginning as a small carpentry business, the company pioneered numerous innovations, including ergonomic worktop heights, the "Ideal" freestanding cupboard (1923), the "Reform Kitchen" with interconnected cabinets (1928), and the ten-layer polished lacquer technique (1930). In 1950, Poggenpohl launched the first unit kitchen, a precursor to modern kitchen design. The company expanded globally, establishing Poggenpohl USA in 1986 and continuing to innovate with technology-integrated kitchens (2004) and a Porsche Design collaboration (2007). After being owned by the Adcuram Group and later the Nobia Group, Poggenpohl was acquired by the Jomoo Group in 2020.
